Title: Rutting resistance of pavements on fly ash-lime stabilized expansive subgrade
Abstract: Highways built on expansive (poor) subgrades have experienced an increase in the severity and extent of permanent deformation (rutting) in hot mix asphalt pavements. In the present study, an attempt is made to evaluate the increase in service of the flexible pavements in terms of rutting resistance by stabilizing the expansive subgrades. The study includes evaluation of optimal quantity of fly ash- lime additive for subgrade stabilization, design and construction of a test track with conventional and stabilized subgrade and evaluation of rutting potential using a Medium Scale Accelerated Pavement Rut Tester (MAPRT). The field studies indicated that stabilized subgrade result in an increase in service by 15%.
