In both nations, White nationalists used anti‐Chinese x...My essay challenges the Hispanic‐America and Anglo‐ America divide by revisiting the Chinese migrant experience in Mexico and the United States. In both nations, White nationalists used anti‐Chinese xenophobia and violence to solidify national identity. My paper specifically explores how post‐revolutionary Mexican identity was formed in opposition to Chinese difference. I end the essay by suggesting that more integrated studies of Chinese migrants in Mexico and the United States, as opposed to comparative studies, are required to fully understand the interrelated regional structures and ideas that simultaneously demanded Chinese labor for economic development, while demonizing the Chinese presence in order to promotes the ideal somatic type that reflected authentic Mexican and U.S. citizenship and belonging.Read More
