Title: In vitro shoot and floral organogenesis from stamen explants from a Rhododendron PJM group clone
Abstract: Flower buds were collected from a clone from the Rhododendron PJM group during autumn and winter, disinfested, and dissected. Stamens were placed in vitro on media containing combinations of thidiazuron (TDZ) and isopentenyladenine (2iP) where they produced callus, adventitious shoots, and adventitious floral structures. There were significant interactions between the two cytokinins as well as significant main effects. The best shoot organogenesis was obtained generally when 1 μM TDZ and 25 μM 2iP were in the medium. Thidiazuron was the predominant cytokinin that stimulated the production of adventitious floral structures.
