Title: On the buckling of helical springs under combined compression and torsion
Abstract: The linearized disturbance equations governing the buckling behaviour of circular-bar helical springs subjected to combined compression and twist are solved numerically using the transfer matrix method to produce buckling design charts. The effects of the number of turns of the spring and the angle of twist are investigated for clamped-clamped ends and the results are compared to existing theories of instability.
