Title: Organizing Non-Union Workers as Trade Unionists in the ‘New Economy’ in Britain
Abstract: Focusing on Britain, this article examines the combined processes by which workers in the ‘new economy’ have sought to unionize and by which trade unions have attempted to organize these workers in the collective struggle for organizational rights within non-union organizations. It considers the genesis and progress of these struggles and campaigns, suggesting that a combination of employer hostility and worker non-engagement explains the limited advances to date.
