Abstract: Objective. To analyze the current situation of perioperative blood transfusion records of gastrointestinal tumor cases and to explore the countermeasures and suggestions for improving the quality of blood transfusion medical records. Methods. The committee for management of clinical blood use carries out the inspection of the medical records and analyzes the monitoring results of medical records of 143 gastrointestinal cancer cases with perioperative blood transfusion from August 2012 to July 2013. Results. The results of analysis show that there are some recording defects in several aspects of the blood transfusion treatment process. The failure rate of discharge records is the highest, being 67.83%. Next are the transfusion related nursing records and their failure rate is 17.48%. The lowest failure rate is that of blood transfusion records, being 2.10%. Conclusions. The transfusion records must be contained in the perioperative medical records of the gastrointestinal tumor cases; and the quality of the records has some influence on the records of medical disputes, so the medical workers should attach great importance to the quality of the records.
