Title: International Tourism in 2001, and Tracking Trends in Travel and Tourism with Seasonal Adjustment
Abstract: The 11 September attacks on the USA caused considerable drops in tourist arrivals in many countries, estimated as a global loss of about 11% in September–December 2001. Detailed inbound and outbound series are presented for Canada, the UK and the USA, with the conventional comparisons of changes on the corresponding month of the previous year, and estimates of the economic effects of this crisis. The advantages of using seasonally-adjusted monthly data to monitor the effects of events are presented.
