Title: An infra-red study of the systems tri-n-butyl phosphate-HNO3 and bis-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid-HNO3
Abstract: An infra-red study of the systems tri-n-butyl phosphate-HNO3 and bis-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid-HNO3 has been made. It has been observed that the nitric acid extracting into these organophosphorus solvents is predominantly of a molecular nature, and that the bonding is primarily to the phosphoryl oxygen. In the TBP system, at low HNO3 concentrations and high aqueous content, some contribution from ionized HNO3 species is possible. The distribution coefficients of HNO3 for these systems are also reported.
