Title: The SusTLE a sustainable approach to enhance the contributions of disaster mitigation in settlement development
Abstract: Natural hazards or political/ethnic conflicts disrupt the growth process of human settlement. The pinch of disaster is inversely proportional to the degree of preparedness to tackle the emergency situation. Unfortunately, disaster management system leads towards man-made disaster if not dealt properly. As the mitigation is normally accepted as a response to crisis, its impact is temporary in many cases. To stretch these temporary provisions as a link for the future, a relevant concept of Sustainable Total Living Environment (SusTLE) has been proposed. An outline of the sustainable approach through the SusTLE model has been introduced so that mitigation can contribute towards the settlement development process, especially in developing countries.
