Abstract: This chapter describes community colleges in adult education. Local business people were usually key citizens working for the establishment of local community colleges. Boards of trustees tend to be made up of local business people. Each occupational education program in a community college will have an advisory committee made up of local employers, and practitioners. It has been a logical development, therefore, for community colleges to have close working relationships with local business, and industry. The majority of the students are already employed locally, and graduates go to work for local employers, and the colleges are supported primarily by local taxes. In Europe, expressions of interest in community college programs have come from regional colleges in Norway, colleges of further education in the United Kingdom, and technical colleges in other countries, such as the Netherlands. Most often international interest has focused not on the community college as an institutional form so much as on the programs they offer.
