Abstract: The rule which was given by Thomas Simpson for finding the value of an annuity on three lives is as follows:—let A, B, and C be the three lives, and let K be a single life, the annuity on which is equal to an annuity on the joint lives of B and C; then the value of an annuity on the joint lives of A and K is the required annuity on the joint lives of A, B, and C. The life A should be the youngest of the three.
