Abstract: Europe is rapidly falling behind in the global race toward the information age. It is losing its high–technology industries to Japanese and American multinationals and becoming a technological colony. This is the dramatic warning that Konrad Seitz gives in his widely acclaimed book, The Japanese–American Challenge – Germany's High–Tech Industries Battle for Survival, published by Verlag Bonn Aktuell, Munich. The book presents six guidelines for German policy. Among them are recommendations for a high–tech alliance with America and expanded cooperation with Japan. Decisive importance is attached to the creation of a future–oriented culture – a "winning culture".
