Title: The Effect of Air on Human Corneal Endothelium
Abstract: We evaluated the effect of air on human corneal endothelium by allowing the anterior chamber to fill completely with air during cataract extraction in 16 patients. These patients had an average loss of endothelial cells of 18.5% a control group of ten patients had an 8.5% loss. In three patients, there was a "peau d'orange" endothelium postoperatively. This disappeared with resorption of the air bubble.
