Abstract: If our planet is to avoid the worst effects of climate change, the biggest greenhouse polluters must be part of the solution. They come no bigger than the US, responsible for almost a quarter of global carbon dioxide emissions. Most of the country's citizens now want to limit global warming. But there are various ways to curb emissions, so New Scientist decided to find out which options play best with ordinary Americans. Peter Aldhous assesses the results.
