Abstract: The author argues that because the living conditions of societies differ, culture is a phenomenon whose content differs from community to community. As each culture operates out of its own logic, each culture has to be analyzed on the basis of its own “logical”; structure. Cross‐cultural and intercultural communications are only successful when these logical foundations are understood and accepted as equal by the people concerned. To illustrate this new perspective on cultural identity this article evaluates a few characteristics of what can be called a Western versus an Asiatic mode of communication.
