Title: Altruistic Behavior in Rural and Urban, Residential and Business Areas
Abstract: Eighty pedestrians walking in a downtown area of a large city, a business area of a small town, a residential-shopping area of a large city, and a residential shopping area of a small town served as subjects. A child pretending to be lost approached the subjects and asked for help to find her parents. The results showed that, contrary to previous findings, approximately the same level of help was given in the urban and nonurban areas. However, significantly more help was offered in the residential than the business settings, and this was the case for urban and nonurban areas.
