Title: Quantitative dependence of electroporation on the pulse parameters
Abstract: The porating action of exponential and rectangular electric pulses was studied. The quantitative dependence of the percentage of porated cells on the amplitude and duration of the pulse was derived, assuming that the probability of poration depends linearly on the transmembrane potential square. In(N0/N)/T where N/N0 is the part of the nonporated cells after the pulse and T is the pulse duration) was found to depend on the amplitude and not on the duration of the pulse. The dependences derived were compared with experimental results on the electroporation of human erythrocytes.
