Title: Laser excitation of Cd(1P1). Absolute quenching cross sections and branching ratios for the process: Cd(1P1) + M → Cd(3PJ) + M
Abstract: Collisional quenching processes of Cd(1P1) have been studied directly, using dye-laser excitation and time-resolved fluorescence. Absolute cross sections for the quenching of Cd(1P1) by several gases have been determined, and the branching ratios for production of Cd(3PJ) for the quenching molecules N2, CH4, C3Hg, and i-C4H10 have been shown to be close to unity.
