Abstract: The joint meeting of the ESA Vegetation Section and the IAVS– NA section was held on Monday, 6 August. Scott Franklin ran the meeting for the ESA Veg section and retired as chair. The new officers are: Mark Fulton, chair; Brian McCarthy, vice-chair, and Loretta Battaglia, secretary. Section members Scott J. Meiners, Steward T. A. Pickett, and Mary L. Cadenasso ran a highly successful symposium, “The Success of Succession: The Development of a Fundamental Ecological Theory and its Application in a Changing World” at the San Jose meeting. Congratulations to Charles Price, Georgia Institute of Technology, who won the Ton Damman Award, for his presentation “Allometric covariation in botanical form and function” at the 2007 meeting. Activities at the Upcoming 2008 ESA meeting in Milwau The joint ESA Vegetation section and IAVS-NA section meeting/mixer will be held on the evening of Monday, August 4. Brian Beckage and Loretta Battaglia will run a Vegetation Section-endorsed symposium titled “Forecasting Future Ecosystem States in a Time of Global Change: From Models to Management”. Also of interest to section members: Workshop WK-4 “Vegetation Analysis in Support of the National Vegetation Classification”, organized by Dave Roberts, Stefan Schnitzer, and M. Forbes Boyle.
