Abstract: Mitral stenosis is commonly encountered in the elderly and among immigrant communities. Percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty provides effective treatment. The present article provides a brief overview of the principles of patient selection, technical details of the procedure itself and information concerning complications and follow-up.
