The results of one of these representative studies are presented. Results show that absenteeism is noticeably lower in work units that have a strong team spirit or when the group is cohesive. Absenteeism is also lower when management stresses its displeasure of worker absenteeism. Workers who regard their work as being intellectually stimulating and challenging have fewer absences. Absenteeism is adversely affected by an increase in the distance that the workers must travel to get to the workplace. From the findings it is suggested that management can play a vital role in reducing the level of absenteeism experienced in the workplace. It is also imperative that management should carefully monitor the workforce through such measures as turnover and absenteeism rates, which can indicate when conditions in the work environment need further attention.Read More
