Title: Lessons from Asia on Sustainable Urban Transport
Abstract: Urban transport, motorisation and the development of 'automobile dependence' have become critical factors in the future liveability of cities, not least those in Asia where motorization is reaching an ever wider range of cities. Urban residents and policy makers struggle with the escalating impacts of private transport and how best to provide for people's transport needs in cost-effective and more sustainable ways. These efforts are part of the wider quest for sustainable, liveable and equitable cities across a broad range of factors, many of which are affected to some degree by the nature of the transport system.
