He was one of the most influential rhetorical educators of all times. Esteemed an "Attic Orator"; himself, he trained three others—Lycurgus, Hypereides, and Isaeus. He taught historians, generals, and statesman as well. Despite his importance in the history of rhetoric and rhetorical education, Isocrates has not been the subject of sustained scholarly inquiry of late.
