Title: The Influence of Epinephrine and Pilocarpine upon Intraocular Pressure Following Single and Combination Installation
Abstract: Fixed combination ratios of epinephrine (0.5%) and pilocarpine 0.5–10% were evaluated for their ability to lower the methylcellulose-induced elevated intra ocular pressure response in rabbits. Additive effects were seen for concentrations of epinephrine to pilocarpine of 0,5:0.5, 0.5:1.0, 0.5:6, and 0.5:8%, with toxicmanifestaion at the higher doses of pilocarpine. Potentiation of the IOP-lowering effect was observed for 0.5:2 and 0.5:4% with the former being significant (p < 0.05). The value of this combination of adrenergic and cholinergic agents in effecting optimal lowering of IOP is realized in these quantitative studies and is important for justification of rational combination therapy
