Title: Practice of entrepreneurship education in developing professional competences for computing students
Abstract: Since the professional competences or soft skills have become most essential attributes of computer science and computer engineering undergraduates, we explored ways to expose computing students to entrepreneurial ideas, to spark their entrepreneurial spirit and enhance their professional competences during their studies. The paper shares our approach and experiences with heightening challenges and opportunities to computing undergraduate students as part of their learning environment via a novel path of entrepreneurship education that aims to get the computing undergraduates interested in innovation and entrepreneurship, involved with computer application problem early in their studies and concentrated in starting the computing company. Our exploratory study supports the conclusion that employing entrepreneurship educational practices that promote student innovation, creativity, problem solving abilities, and team collaboration, even on a relatively small scale at China Jiliang University, can have a significant impact on the development of entrepreneurial competences in engineering curricula nation wide.
