Title: Flexible sigmoidoscopy for the detection of microscopic colitis
Abstract: Microscopic colitis is a disorder of unknown etiology that causes chronic diarrhea. Colonic biopsy specimens from affected patients reveal a nonspecific pattern of inflammation (1). The term microscopic colitis is used to encompass two entities—collagenous colitis (2) and lymphocytic colitis (3)—which are clinically and histologically similar except for an increased subepithelial collagen table in collagenous colitis.
