Title: A new lyssavirus — fhe first endemic rabies-related virus recognized in Australia
Abstract: A previously undiscovered lyssavirus has been identified in fruit bats in Australia. Although close to classical rabies virus, antigenically and genetically, the Australian bat lyssavirus represents a new genotype. It causes central nervous system pathology in bats and has caused the death of one woman.
