Abstract: Abstract An American and European authority on economic and social transformation in Russia as well as other successor states of the USSR interprets the findings of two papers on Russia's December 2003 parliamentary and March 2004 presidential elections in this fourth 2004 issue of Eurasian Geography and Economics. In highlighting the ways in which the recent election results signal a break with previous post-Soviet electoral contests, he presents a number of alternative interpretations of Russia's current socio-economic and political scene, as well as possible future trajectories for the country.
