Abstract: Abstract A boulder consisting of orbicular and layered gabbro was found in central Viti Levu. The orbs, rnostly up to 5 cm in diameter, consist of plagioclase, augite, hornblende, biotite, and minor magnetite and hypersthene. The plagioc1ase near the centres is bytownite, but the outer zones have oligoc1ase, which also occurs in the matrix between the orbs. Radial orientation of the crystals is well deve1oped. Nuc1ei of gabbro or plagioc1ase were noted in some orbs. The matrix consists of plagioc1ase with epidote, chlorite, hornblende, and calcite, plus pseudomorphs possibly after sphene, This is the first orbicular rock found in Fiji.
