Title: Data on the inheritance of resistance to powdery mildew in the cultivated strawberry
Abstract: Results are presented for levels of mildew infection in seedlings of the cultivated strawberry in years of severe outbreaks of powdery mildew. Evidence is shown for the presence of general and specific effects in mildew inheritance and of differences in breeding-value of close relatives, in this case full-sibs. The results also indicate that a maternal effect on mildew susceptibility exists, and that while ‘Cambridge Vigour’ is more susceptible than ‘Cambridge Favourite’, and gives the more susceptible progeny, there may be either a maternal effect for susceptibility transmitted through ‘Cambridge Favourite’, or an effect for resistance transmitted through ‘Cambridge Vigour’.
