Abstract: <h3>In Reply.—</h3> Dr Gabor is correct in stating that hematologists have long been aware of the importance of "bitten-out" red cells in oxidative hemolysis. The object of my report was to bring this point to the attention of internists in general, since references to the phenomenon are rather obscure. However, I am sorry to have failed to cite De Leeuw et al,1who did describe this morphologic phenomenon, without illustrations, in the text of their excellent report on Heinz body hemolytic anemia due to sulfonamides in patients with renal impairment. Dr Gabor and his associates also mentioned this phenomenon in a report (again without illustrations) of an azotemic patient treated with phenazopyridine.2
