Title: Electrocardiographic changes in man and experimental animals provoked by the venom of Latrodectus tredecimguttatus
Abstract: Electrocardiograms were obtained from eleven patients and twenty-four guinea pigs envenomated with the toxin of Latrodectus tredecimguttatus. Sinus bradycardia, prolongation of the QT-interval with depression of the ST-segment, high P2 and P3-waves and flattened or negative T-waves were observed in four patients. After recovery these alterations disappeared. Sinus tachycardia or bradycardia, supraventricular extrasystoles, prolongation of the PQ-interval, transition of grade I block to grade II block in typical Lucciani-Wenckebach's periods, lowering of the ST-segment and negative, biphasic or flattened T-waves were observed. The electrocardiograms for the envenomated animals were similar to those produced by digitalis or barium.
