Title: On the cytosolic inhibition of enzyme inactivation
Abstract: 1. The inhibition of the proteolysis of a number of purified enzymes by a beef liver cytosol fraction has been investigated. 2. The tryptic and chymotryptic digestion of catalase, aldolase and pyruvate kinase was inhibited to various degrees by beef liver cytosol. with the most marked protection occurring for aldolase. 3. Malaie dehydrogenase and lactate dehydrogenase were offered no additional protection from trypsin or chymotrypsin above that exhibited by bovine serum albumin. 4. With respect to pronase inactivation of these enzymes, the cytosol fraction offered little significant protection. 5. The significance of these data has been discussed in terms of the regulation of the degradative processes for specific proteins in mammalian tissues.
