Title: Notes on the canker fungus (Nectria galligena Bres.)
Abstract: One method of over-wintering of the apple “canker” fungus (Nectria galligena Bres.) is by the formation of perithecia upon shrivelled fruits. The Fusarium stage of “canker” (Fusarium Willkommii Lindau) is responsible for an “eye rot” of Worcester Pearmain. Evidence is brought forward to show that one case of wilting of Worcester Pearmain blossom trusses was due to the canker fungus, but no explanation is advanced as to the mode of infection. An unusual form of pear canker is described.
