Title: The historical development of nuclear power generation in the UK
Abstract: About one-fifth of the UK's electricity is generated from nuclear power, achieved by the operation of 24 nuclear reactors. The UK possesses a number of reprocessing plants including Sellafield. The growth of the UK's nuclear power generation since 1956 will be outlined, when the first commercial nuclear power reactor started operating; with electricity production peaking in 1997 with 26% of the UK electricity was generated from nuclear power. The different types of nuclear power stations will be outlined, and the research reactors that currently exist. (7 pages)
