Title: Surface Debye-Waller factors for Cr(100) and Mo(100)
Abstract: Using low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) we have measured Debye-Waller factors for Cr(100) and Mo(100) surfaces at near normal incidence. We find that the derived effective Debye temperature as a function of electron energy fluctuates about a curve which increases smoothly with energy and saturates at the bulk value of Debye temperature. The Debye temperatures measured on peaks near the Bragg voltage are about 18–25% higher than those measured on peaks near half-order Bragg voltages. Some of the results are interpreted in terms of a variation in absorption coefficient with energy and also in terms of multiple diffraction.
