Title: A study of the behaviour of a broken rock under triaxial compression, and its application to mine roadways
Abstract: Laboratory measurements of the effect of a confining pressure in the strength and stress-strain characteristics of broken cylinders of a single rock are described. The rock tested was an iron-stained calcareous silty mudstone. A simple theory of fracture is given to account for the results and the results are used to obtained the stresses, approximate displacements and movements paths around a hypothetical roadway.
