Title: Lower cenomanian (Mid-Cretaceous) ammonites from south-east Nigeria
Abstract: Ammonites are described from the Lower Cenomanian part of the Odukpani Formation in the Calabar region of south-east Nigeria. In common with other parts of Africa, basal Cenomanian shales yield a fauna of pyritized, micromorphic ammonites including Mariella (M.) oehlerti (Pervinquière), Puzosia spp., Desmoceras (D.) latidorsatum (Michelin) and Flickia quadrata Collignon. The overlying beds are dominated by species of Acompsoceras, including A. subrenevieri sp. nov., which are accompanied by Mariella (M.) oehlerti and Pachydesmoceras cf. radaodyi Collignon. In terms of both mode of preservation and species content these Lower Cenomanian faunas have their closest affinities with those of the Malagasy Republic.
