Barbara ferman is professor of Political Science at Temple University. She is author of Challenging the Growth Machine: Neighborhood Politics in chicago and Pittsburgh (University Press of Kansas, 1996), and Governing the Ungovernable City: Political Skill, Leadership and the Modern Mayor (Temple University Press, 1985) and is co-author of The Political Hand: Policy Implementation and Youth Employment Porgrams (Pergamon Press, 1985). She has conducted extensive research on housing and community development in various cities.
