Title: Exploring and preserving biodiversity in the tropics: the Costa Rican case
Abstract: Advances in biotechnology are drawing industry back to nature as a source of valuable leads for drug and agrochemical development. Yet biodiversity is disappearing faster today than at any previous time in history. In Costa Rica, the recently formed National Institute of Biodiversity offers a new and promising approach to unite science, industry and developing countries in the exploration and conservation of tropical biodiversity.
