Title: Investigations of the optical spectra and EPR g factors for LuAlO3:Ce3+ crystal
Abstract: The optical spectral band positions and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) g factors g(x), g(y) and g(z) in LuAlO(3):Ce(3+) crystal are calculated by using a complete diagonalization (of energy matrix) method (CDM). In the method, the Zeeman (or magnetic) interaction is added to the Hamiltonian in the conventional CDM and so the present Hamiltonian includes all the interactions for 40 ions under electric field (i.e., the crystal field in crystal) and external magnetic field (in EPR experiment). The calculated results are in reasonable agreement with the experimental values. In addition, the calculated g factors and optical spectra from the present CDM are very close to those from the conventional CDM. It appears that both CDMs can be effective to the calculations of g factors (and also optical spectra) for 4f(n) ions in crystals. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
