Title: The assessment of wind loads on roof overhang of low-rise buildings
Abstract: Numerical simulations are compared with experimental mean values of characteristic pressure (Cp) values on a gable wall and on a roof overhang of a low-rise building. The inclined wind direction investigated is normal to the gable wall. Two-model designs with an overhang of 0.3 and 3.4 m are examined. The main issue in this paper is to investigate what influence a large roof overhang has on the Cp-values on the house, compared to an ordinary roof. Also from the engineering point of view, it is interesting to see how well a commercial CFD-code, with a basic turbulence model, can predict the Cp-values for a house. The numerical simulations are performed with a κ−ε turbulence model.
