Title: Sensitivity of Dunaliella and Scenedesmus (Chlorophyceae) to chlorinated hydrocarbons
Abstract: Dunaliella tertiolecta and Scenedesmus quadricauda, two algal species with quite different morphological characteristics, were tested for resistance to chlorinated hydrocarbons, as measured by carbon–14 uptake. Both species were found to be resistant to 2,2,–bis (p–chlorophenyl)–1,1,1–trichlorethane (DDT) and its analogs (103 ppb), but sensitive to polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB); Scenedesmus at 0.1 ppb, and Dunaliella at 102 ppb.
