Abstract: Biocatalysis is the use of enzymes – isolated or in whole cells – in organic synthesis, mainly for the conversion of non-natural substrates. In 1983, biocatalysis offered young researchers, previously trained in synthetic and bioorganic chemistry, the fascinating promise of being able to exploit nature efficiency and selectivity.
