Title: Developing a competent and flexible workforce using the Calderdale Framework
Abstract: Background Successive UK Governments have sought to reform the NHS by putting the patient at the centre of service design. There is also a drive to modernize the NHS workforce. Contents The Calderdale Framework provides a tool to facilitate the development of a competent and flexible workforce, and engages clinicians throughout the process. This review uses a case study to illustrate the implementation of the Calderdale Framework in practice, leading to the development of competency based training and new ways of working for support staff. Conclusions Use of the Calderdale Framework within the Clinical Therapy and Rehabilitation Directorate of the Calderdale NHS Trust, led to a competency trained support staff workforce. It is a useful tool for clinicians and managers wishing to review service design and workforce development.
