Title: Photodynamic therapy slows vision loss in macular degeneration
Abstract: Interim results of a trial of photodynamic therapy for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are encouraging, claims Neil Bressler (Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA). “The vision loss experienced by many patients with ‘wet’ AMD—the form of the disease in which new choroidal blood vessels grow into the retina—can be slowed by use of verteporfin and laser therapy”, he says.
