Title: The inherent stability of Chenopodium quinoa chloroplasts
Abstract: Chloroplasts of Chenopodium quinoa can maintain their in vitro photosynthetic electron transport activities 2–3 times longer when illuminated and 5–10 times longer when stored in the dark at 0°C or at 20°C than do chloroplasts from other species of higher plants, including the most commonly used spinach, peas and maize. Chloroplasts from other Chenopodium species were intermediate in stability between C. quinoa and spinach chloroplasts.
