Both pigments are bound to proteins that occur in crystalline form in the yolk platelet. The major blue pigment is biliverdin IXα. The eggs vary in color from brilliant blue to pale yellow-green depending on the amount of each pigment. These pigments may provide protective coloration to the eggs.Read More
