Title: REFINEMENTS IN THE DETERMINATION OF “FREE PREGNANEDIOL”
Abstract: Pregnanediol, as a progesterone metabolite, has been the subject of much discussion both in relation to its interpretation and to the method of its determination (1–6). Because of its application to clinical problems we have been concerned with a more precise method of assay. Pregnanediol may be measured either as sodium pregnanediol glucuronidate by the classic method of Venning (7), or as “free” pregnanediol by various modifications of the Astwood-Jones (8) method. The present paper deals with the determination of “free” pregnanediol and with the elimination of some of the steroids which may tend to give high pregnanediol values.
