The desorption behaviour of these films was studied by means of high-frequency surface acoustic waves acting as a microbalance. Subsequent annealing of the solidified mixtures leads to steplike desorption processes. Over a wide range of film compositions, the release of neon atoms takes place at three discrete substrate temperatures. By analyzing the data with respect to the composition of the solid during annealing, we find clear evidence for the formation of phases containing a well-defined stoichiometry of neon and argon: Ne2Ar and Ar2Ne.Read More
